INTRODUCTION TO YOGA - 6 WEEK COURSE
The thought of yoga can be intimidating for anyone who hasn’t attended a class. We conjure up thoughts that convince us that yoga is not for us. ‘I can’t even touch my toes’ ‘I have a bad back or knees’ ‘Oh, I can’t sit still’. But these are the exact ailments that we address in our practice to heal our bodies and minds.
Did you know that all of the 12 main body systems are nourished through a yoga practice? Did you know that yoga is more than just the asana (postures) you see posted on Instagram? Did you know how healing the practice of yoga is?
This Introduction to Yoga course will give you the confidence to practice yoga in a way that honours your body, adjusting and refining postures. We start with acknowledging our limitations and gently begin to heal and strengthen.
This course is for anyone who has never stepped on a yoga mat or those wanting to deepen their knowledge and move deeper in their practice.
Each week Melissa will will explore a different area of yoga philosophy and practice.
Week 1 - An introduction to Yoga and Yogic Breath (Pranayama)
Week 2 - Moving meditation our sun salutations (Surya Namaskar)
Week 3 - Bandhas, Foundation postures (Asana) - Standing, Twists, Balance and Core
Week 4 - More Foundation postures (Asana) - Seated, Hips, Back Bends and Reclined.
Week 5 - Mindfulness (Dharana)and Meditation (Dhyana)
Week 6 - Creating your own practice
Each student will receive a booklet encompassing all teachings. This course is capped at a maximum of 10 people to ensure they receive the attention they require. Modules cannot be completed individually. Please note this course is non-refundable or transferable.
What to bring?
A yoga mat, towel and a pillow case, note pad and pen.
Time: 10:30 - 12:00pm each Thursday for 6 consecutive
2.00 - 3:30pm each Sunday for 6 consecutive weeks
